If you need a personal, priavte tutor and are looking for a home tutor, you've probably got many questions so to help provide you with answers, simplify the process and assure you that 1-2-1 Home Tutors is the right choice for you, we have put together some of our most frequently asked questions:

Your questions answered

Which subjects do your tutors offer private tuiton in?

We aim to find you a private tutor for the subject(s) you require but our most popular subjects are Maths, English, Science (biology, chemistry, physics, combined science), languages (French, German) and general primary. However, we have tutors for many other subjects so please ask or see our 'subjects' page.

Which levels do your tutors cover?

We have tutors for all the different levels from early primary - year 1 to keystage 1 and keystage 2 SATs, entrance tests, eleven plus (11+), lower secondary, keystage 3 SATs to GCSE, AS, A2, A levels and higher. For more information about the different levels, please see our 'levels' page.

Which areas do you cover?

We aim to find you a tutor in your geographic area and currently operate in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Runcorn, Warrington and Liverpool. Throughout these areas we have numerous personal tutors that specialise in different subjects and at different academic levels from infants to adults.

See our Cheshire Tutors, Manchester Tutors, Liverpool Tutors, Wilmslow Tutors pages for subjects and local towns that our tutors currently have availability.

I want to arrange a home tutor for my son. Where do I start?

Simply pick up the phone or email your requirements to us direct. A member of our team will respond to your enquiry promptly and take your details in order to find the best tutor match. Remember, all initial advice is free of charge.

Where do lessons take place, and when?

Tuition normally takes place in the clients home, but for group sessions school premises or (for adults) the office may be the best venue.

Lessons typically take place outside of school hours - during the evenings and over the weekend as most children and tutors are available at this time.

Can tutors teach more than one subject?

Primary level tutors - from keystage 1 up to keystage 2 - often offer tuition in the range of primary subjects. For higher levels: lower secondary, keystage 3 and 4, GCSE, A level and above, tutors tend to specialise in one subject and we would usually recommend separate tutors, though there are some subjects, eg maths and science, that compliment each other and that may be offered by the same tutor.

What do I do if I am not happy with a tutor?

If you are in any way not 100% happy with any tutor recommended to you by 1-2-1 Home Tutors, then please contact us immediately so that we can address the issue and find you an alternate tutor.

The reason doesn't matter - its more important to get the right tutor for the learner. It could be that you are simply unsatisfied with an individual due his/her style of tutoring, or the child - especially a younger child - may simply not 'gel' with the tutor.

However, if you have any serious concerns regarding any tutor introduced to you by 1-2-1 Home Tutors, then please contact us immediately so that we can investigate as a matter of urgency (though we hope this will never happen). The tutor concerned may be suspended from our register and if appropriate, reported to the authorities for misconduct.

Is there a registration fee?

No, we do not charge you for our tutor introductory service.

How many hours tuition do I need?

That depends on many factors such as the ability of the learner and the reason for tuition. On average students take an hours extra tuition per subject per week.

How many lessons do I have to book?

There is no commitment to you, the client, to take a set number of lessons. Once a suitable tutor has been found we ask that you give the tutor at least 24hrs notice of cancellation of a weekly lesson and at least 2weeks notice of permanent cancellation, else you may be liable for tutor fees.

What are tuition fees?

Fees will vary dependent on the level of tuition, subject and geographic area. We aim to take on and develop the only best tutors and some of our more experienced and 'in demand' tutors can command slightly higher fees. All quoted fees are inclusive per hour - for an individual quote please call.

How are the tuition fees paid?

Fees should be paid direct to the tutor by cheque or cash at the end of every lesson. In some circumstances it may be possible to arrange for an invoice to be sent or for lessons to be booked in blocks.

Are all the teachers fully qualified?

Yes, all tutors must be educated to a level higher than the highest level they tutor, preferably to degree level, and hold the appropriate qualifications for the subjects and level(s) at which they teach.

How are your tutors vetted?

All tutors undertake in-house screening and are selected for their abilities and skills. Enhanced CRB disclosures ensure that any offence is made known to us, in which case the individual would not be deemed suitable for our register. References are checked and tutors are advised to carry identification with them when they come to your home.
