*as our tutors are professionals we suggest they offer clients a contract, though this is at the discretion of the tutor and is wholly aimed at helping both tutor and tutee know their obligations.
All 1-2-1 Home Tutors must be professionally qualified and able to demonstrate expertise in their subject area. Our tutors are from a range of backgrounds and are a range of ages; current teachers, ex-teachers come tutors, retired teachers, professional tutors, college teachers, trainers, lecturers and allied professionals.
At 1-2-1 Home Tutors we are acutely aware that by instructing a tutor, you are effectively welcoming a stranger into your home and our recruiting processes therefore adheres to rigorous standards. Quality of tutoring is also monitored on an ongoing basis through results analysis and client feedback.
Our tutor selection includes rigorous checking of qualifications and assessment of their suitability for private tuition and sometimes an initial interview. We require that the tutors be qualified in the subject(s) they tutor to at least a level above the highest level they offer tuition in the subject and we also require at least two references from each tutor; one academic and the other from a current/former employer. For proof of identity and address we also examine passport, driving license and utility bills and we check that the tutor has a valid, enhanced CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure. This process checks both local and national records, seeking allegations and complaints as well as convictions.
For added security we will confirm to you the name and contact details of the recommended tutor so that you know who is to contact you to arrange tuition.
Rest assured we have built up a loyal local tutor network and will be more than happy to provide you with tutor profile(s).

We will then discuss the options available to you and the tutors we have available and answer any questions you may have and quote the likely fee.
Note there is no obligation at this point to take on a tutor.
Finding the right tutor to suit the tutee, especially crucial with the younger tutees, is imperative and while most times we get the perfect tutor-tutee match straight away, sometimes, we need to start again. This is most frequently because there isn't a mutually convenient day/time for the tutoring - fitting tuition around other out of school activities can be a challenge!
Yes - tutors will be happy to meet with you and your child first to discuss your requirements in more detail and agree appointments, terms etc. Some tutors will charge a reduced fee for this visit to cover their expenses though many waive their fee for this visit - please discuss with the individual tutor.
When you are happy you have found the right tutor and have all your questions answered (see also FAQs) we ask that you enter into a contract with your chosen tutor and agree to their terms and conditions*
Our tutors are professionals and so we trust that all new tutees, or their parent/guardian, will be more than happy to enter into a contract with the tutor; some tutors require you to sign a written contract, others will accept verbal agreements. We ask that you respect the professional wishes of the tutor. As a general guide, most of our tutors follow our advice and use the same terms and conditions>>
While there is no committment for you, or a tutee to take a set number of lessons, we ask that you honour any bookings made and agree to our cancellation policy above. Please discuss and agree the timing and frequency of lessons with the tutor in advance and, if possible, give the tutor an indication of how many lessons may be needed or the time period you anticipate for the tutoring. honour bookings made
