Power Up Your Study Performance

exhausted student

What can boost your performance, keep you on track and help you cope with anything the exam or study season might throw at you?

Yep, you’ve guessed it: a balanced diet and sleep – and lots of it!

Is that all? Well, it’s actually harder to nail than you might think.

Slipping into bad habits at home is so common. HANDS UP. Who else does this too?

  • Staying up late working, gaming or watching TV
  • Drinking coffee or fizzy drinks before bedtime
  • Checking social media last thing at night
  • Skipping meals or pigging out on pizza and sugary snacks

Sometimes, we’re so focused on what we’re busy with that we neglect our bodies, brains and minds.

While pizza is a well deserved treat occasionally, if you’re not balancing it out with healthier foods and drink, too many carbs can tire you out fast.

And that’s a sure-fire way to prevent peak performance during exams.

The Don’ts that Trigger Burnout

  • Excess sugar or caffeine causes sugar spikes, followed by energy crashes
  • Skipping meals stop you concentrating, cause headaches, and slash your energy
  • Lack of sleep – whether you’re in bed too late and can’t rest as your head is buzzing, or you’re puling all-nighters to revise – stops you processing what you’ve learnt

Instead, give your mind and body a chance to unwind, to decompress, to recuperate.

Not just for your physical wellbeing, but for your emotional and mental health too.

How? Here’s a handy list to improve your overall performance…

Healthy Habits To Do List

  • Get plenty of fresh air, go for a walk or a run
  • Relax before bedtime without using a screen
  • Get into the habit of going to bed earlier during exams
  • Spread revision across a timetable rather than cramming
  • Meet up with your mates. Exams are NOT everything
  • Drink more water, and snack on fruit and veg
